Obituary of Wayne Charles Brisette (1962-2002)

Wayne Charles “Sam” Brisette
(January 4, 1962-July 17, 2002)

HARVEY — Wayne Charles “Sam” Brisette, 60 of 112 Acorn Trail, Harvey, entered eternal life Wednesday, July 17 in Escanaba. He had been in ill health for several years.

Born January 4, 1962, in Assinins, a son of Clifford and Seraphine (Papin) Bressette, he was raised in Marquette and remained a lifelong Marquette area resident. Sam served in the U.S. Navy from February 19, 1959, to September 10, 1963, serving aboard the USS Englis. He then worked for a time for the City of Marquette and later was employed by the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company on the ore boats for over three years. Sam received his certification as an electrician and worked through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #1070 for several years, retiring in 1989. Sam was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed fishing with his grandsons. He also served as a softball coach for the men’s and women’s softball leagues and was an avid BINGO participant.

Sam was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Richard Jopling Post #44 of the American Legion, VFW Post #6 of Marquette, and the Marquette Moose Lodge.

A loving father, proud grandparent, devoted son, brother, and friend, he is survived by his daughter, Wendy (Brian) Jensen and their children, Christopher Wayne Jensen and Brandon Lee Jensen of Ankeny, IA; his former wife, Judy Brisette of Ankeny, IA; his mother, Seraphine Bressette of Harvey; eight sisters, Gloria Finnerty and Carol (Ken) Peterson both of Escanaba, Cheryl Bressette of Ishpeming, Paulette Beauchamp, Sandra Carlson, and Geraldine Bess of Marquette, and Kathy (Kevin) Mercure and Linda Bressette both of Harvey; five brothers, Donald (Stephanie) Bresette of Minot, ND, Keith Bressette and Glen (Joann) Bressette both of Harvey, Allen Bressette of Marquette, and Michael Bressette of Gwinn; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his longtime friend, Ester Long of Marquette. Sam was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Bressette in 1974.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday morning, July 22, in St. Chistopher Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lawrence Gauthier as celebrant. There will be no public visitation.

Inurnment will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Honorary esorts will be Glen Bressette Jr., Derek Bressette, Gardner Bess Jr., Clifford Peterson, Kevin Mercure, and Randy Black.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to a scholarship fund to be established for Sam’s two grandsons.

The Fassbender Funeral Home is serving the family.
